The Patrol Division of the Auburn Police Department is composed of 28 police officers, six patrol supervisors, and 23 patrolmen.
The goals of patrol division include (1) crime prevention and deterrence, (2) apprehension of offenders, (3) creation of a sense of security and satisfaction, (4) provision of non-crime-related services, (5) traffic control, and (6) identifying and solving community problems with respect to crime and disorder.
The Auburn Police Department Patrol Division operates twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and is divided into three eight-hour shifts. These officers on average handle 24,000 incidents per year. These incidents have resulted in on average 1,200 reports filed, 400 in custody arrests, and 300 criminal summonses.
The Patrol Division is overseen by the Operations Lieutenant Kenneth Charlton. Patrol supervisors are assigned to each shift, with generally a Sergeant being the commanding officer.
