The Auburn Police Detective Bureau is comprised of three detectives, and one detective sergeant. Auburn Police Department Detectives are assigned to major investigations, crimes that extend beyond the borders of Auburn, and to handle sensitive matters that require lengthy examinations, interviews, and writing court orders such as subpoenas and search warrants.

In 2022, these four veteran detectives were the lead investigators for several high-profile incidents to include an attempted murder by stabbing, the successful prosecution of a man convicted of raping a juvenile female, and two overnight commercial burglaries that resulted in the theft of more than $200,000 in property. 

Auburn Police Detectives noted a 36% increase in death investigations from 2021 to 2022. In-home, natural death investigations are time consuming investigations that are sometimes conducted in cooperation with investigators assigned to the Office of the District Attorney.

Auburn Police Department Detectives also registered and monitored all registered sex offenders that live or work in Auburn. In addition to criminal investigations, these Detectives also completed 17 background checks of potential employees of the Town of Auburn. 

The Auburn Police Department’s Detective Bureau works in conjunction with our own in-house Bureau of Criminal Investigations. Auburn Police Detectives routinely process crime scenes for forensic evidence using a multitude of different applications and technologies. All evidence collected is submitted to the crime lab for processing and Auburn Police Detective’s work closely with other municipal and state agencies for the prompt and accurate analysis of the evidence submitted.
