1975 - Motorcycle Unit Established
The Auburn Police Department Motorcycle Unit utilizes Harley Davidson (FLHTP) Electra Glides. The department currently has three motorcycles and five trained officers. The training is an extensive 40-hour training course based off the guidelines of Northwestern University Center for Public Safety. Lieutenant Todd Lemon and Officer Keith Chipman are certified motorcycle training instructors through Northwestern University.
The units primary duties include traffic safety enforcement, police escorts, traffic control and assisting with various special events and community activities. This unit typically operates when weather permits, but the motorcycle unit is utilized when necessary regardless of weather.
